Women's silence : in the space of words and images

This thesis considers how the silence in women's lives can be expressed through their work as artists with words and images in visual art. It compares contemporary practice with the scribal art of medieval nuns in illuminated manuscripts, showing how women create alternative forms of speech to articulate their silence.<p></p>
