This thesis investigated Robert Wise's SF classic The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) to challenge claims that it was (a) an alien invasion film, (b) anti-atomic, and (c) anti-war. Instead, Klaatu was revealed as a Christ-figure and his modern-day intimate contacts as the subtextual equivalents of Jesus's ancient associates.
