Colourful language: an inquiry into colour space and architectural choices
Motamed, Bahareh 2017, Colourful language: an inquiry into colour space and architectural choices, PhD thesis, School of Architecture and Built Environment, Deakin University.
This study answered an apparently straightforward but previously largely unconsidered question: ‘what informs architects’ colour use?’ Although the initial focus was on the role of education and culture, these turned out to be amongst a very large pool of variables that influence decision making during design. While the findings pointed to the influence of cultural background, demographics, education and, of course, design context, they showed rather surprisingly that architects’ personal colour preferences had by far the greatest influence.
