Summary  This study develops a new topology optimization algorithm named Smooth-Edged Material Distribution for Optimizing Topology (SEMDOT). The proposed SEMDOT is used to obtain smooth self-supporting topologies without needing post-processing methods before fabrication and adding extra support structures during the additive manufacturing.
